(Women to Dogs)

“Naturally, Transfun highly recommends that our first time users not drink samples around the holiday season, as ingesting large quantities of food after a recent change may result in a rebound change...”—Oft-overlooked guide included in Transfun purchases.

Tiffany sighed, looking around the table.  She loved her family, she really did, but their Fourth of July dinner was the worst.  She always was seated at the kids’ table, and even though tonight’s meal was just with her parents and sister’s family, they’d insisted on keeping up the tradition, letting her sit across from her niece.

Naturally, the little girl wasn’t too much of a conversationalist, busy focusing on the food on her plate.  Not that Tiffany was much better.  She was more a little upset that she wasn’t allowed to sit at the ‘grown-up’ table, and she’d been stuffing her face with steak and mashed potatoes.  It wasn’t the best for her figure, but she wouldn’t be a cheerleader after college.

She twirled a blonde lock of her hair, her shirt itching uncomfortably.  They’d asked her to wear her ‘good clothes’, which had been at home for a year.  She sighed, bringing a hand down to scratch her stomach.  That didn’t help, it only made the itch feel like it was spreading up her chest, almost reaching past her collar.

“And let me tell you, I don’t get those TransFun people!  Changing themselves into things that aren’t human—it’s not right, not right in the head at all!”  Tiffany’s father guffawed from the other table, slapping his leg.

Tiffany allowed herself a small, shy smile.  If only he’d known she’d changed into a St. Bernard just a few days ago!  Truth be told, that was her reason for drinking the vial in the first place—it was a break from the usual conservative norm, not to mention MUCH easier than getting a tattoo.  Yes, it was quick, easy, and done after just a weekend with her friends.

“Here’s to us, kiddo.”  Tiffany tilted her glass of cider at Jesse, smiling as the baby burbled a little.  Tiffany’s collar itched more, and she growled lowly, stuffing her mouth with another heap of potatoes.  That was a bad habit she’d picked up from her time as a dog, but it just felt so natural to let a low rumble from her throat every now and then.

Unsurprisingly, the food didn’t help much, and Tiffany found herself scratching her collar absently, feeling how frayed the fabric was there.  It felt almost like a bunch of coarse hairs were splitting off from her shirt—maybe she’d...  Tiffany’s thoughts ground to a halt as she realized her fingers were well between the shirt and where her collar was supposed to be.  Slowly, she lifted her collar, peering down to find that just under her shirt was a growing coat of white fur, with what looked like some brown along her sides.

It was a very familiar sight to her, the fur of a Saint Bernard.  Tiffany froze in shock, blinking rapidly as she looked down her shirt.  The fur grew a little thicker as she watched, and she could feel it crawling up the back of her neck.  “Um...  Got to go!”  She shouted frantically, sprinting to her bathroom before anyone could better see her.

The door slammed behind her, just as she heard chairs sliding from the other room.  “Tiffany?  Are you okay?”  Her mother called through the door.

“Y-yeah, Mom.  Just fine in here.”  Tiffany breathed, stripping hurriedly to see how much of her body had changed.  As her shirt slipped off of her head, she noticed some of her hair was going with it, and Tiffany darted to the mirror, watching as thick white and brown fur forced her old human hair out of its roots.  Great, looks like her changes wouldn’t be stopping any time soon...  Tiffany whimpered as her ears started to lengthen, and she wondered if the same was happening to her friends.

“I feel funny.”  That was what Debby had said, seconds before her ears had started to twitch.  Becca’s sister had yelped as grey fur sprouted from every pore of her body, shouting “It’s so itchy!”  Her ears started to slowly round, drawing gently to the top of her head.  “I didn’t think it would start that soon!”

Becca looked to her mother in confusion—she didn’t see Debby drink any TransFun, so did Mom spike the food?

Her mother smiled, patting her lap as Debby hopped from her chair, darting over to be pet.  “Oh good, the rebound changes already started!”

Becca blinked, her eyes wide with surprise.  “Rebound  changes?  And you’re okay with Debby changing into a...”

“Squirrel.  I wasn’t too sold on it until your father couldn’t make it home for the Fourth.  Then, well, Debby wanted to know if I wanted a cute little pet over the holiday—and who was I to refuse?”  Becca’s mother smiled, scratching Debby behind her twitching ears as she spoke.

“Okay.”  Becca said slowly, grabbing another handful of chips as she watched her sister transform.  It wasn’t usually like her to eat this much, but what the hell, it was the holidays and she needed something to chew on while she was trying to sort these changes out.  She swallowed the mouthful, looking up at her mother in confusion.  “But what about these ‘rebound changes’?”

Becca’s mother chuckled as her daughter grabbed another handful of chips.  “You didn’t know?  Apparently first time TransFun users can have a rebound if they eat a lot after their first change.  It’s almost like a buy one, get one free!”

“Wait.”  Becca paused mid-chew, swallowing reflexively.  “How many days after their first change?”  It had been what: 3, 4 days since she’d transformed with her friends from Delta Omicron?  That was plenty of time.  Right?  Right?

The itching feeling spreading across Becca’s body begged to differ.

“Ah!”  The bookish girl squeaked, her glasses slipping from her face as her ears slid up her skull.  But that was hardly her most pressing concern—her biggest problem was the black and brown fur coat that was rapidly spreading across her body.

Her mother gasped.  “Oh my God!”  Then, she followed it with a delighted squeal.  “You look so cute!!!  You’ve got such cute black and brown fur and... dog ears!  Are you becoming a little Yorkshire Terrier?”

Becca’s new teeth poked through her gums, and the changing girl ran her lengthening tongue along them, feeling herself grow canine canines.  Heh.  She gave her mother a smile, partly to show off her latest changes.  “Maybe.  We kind of took some TransFun a few days ago, and...”

Her sister chuckled.  “You didn’t read the manual.”

“Classic Becca.”  Her mom chuckled, leaning back in her seat, petting Debby’s head.  “Don’t forget about your footwear, dear.”

Debby nodded, slipping off her socks and shoes as her feet started to change.  She giggled with delight, wiggling her stretching toes.  It looked like her big toe was smaller than the rest, but this didn’t even crack Debby’s smile.  “Oh, squirrel paws.  I missed you.”  She sighed dreamily, her toes twitching eagerly.

“Oh, shoot!”  Becca gasped, kicking off her sandals even as her own feet started to change.  She could feel her toes plumping up, her big toes already thinning down to dewclaws.

“You’ve got little dog paws!”  Becca’s mother gasped.  “Do your big toes always slide up your ankles like that?”

“Well, they didn’t the last time I changed, so I guess it’s a little random.”  Becca laughed nervously.  “But I’ve still got these little plump paw pads!”  She giggled as her feet continued to change, her soles plumping out, turning a rich brown.  She realized with a start that everyone was looking at her feet, and grew a little nervous from the attention.

“But that’s not as cute as your paws, Debby!”  Becca said, an obvious effort to draw their gazes off of her.  It worked perfectly, the two other women looking back to Debby’s squirrel feet, watching as her nails extended from the tips of her slim toes, leaving her with a paw that was perfect for climbing trees.  Debby half-giggled, half-chittered, twitching her slender digits appreciatively.

Now that she had some free time, Becca was able to focus more on her current situation.  It definitely wasn’t so bad, but on the other hand, she couldn’t help but feel some sense of unease, like there was something she’d forgotten.  Debby had said ‘first-time users’, so wouldn’t that include Tiffany?  Becca swallowed hard, grabbing her phone to text her friend while she still could.

Tiffany’s cell vibrated on the bathroom counter next to her for the hundredth time, and she glared at it miserably.  This time, the changes had hit her hands before her feet, and she couldn’t operate the smartphone if she tried.  Her tongue lolled out of her mouth again as she glared at the device.  She was almost tempted to risk scratching it with her claws; then a brilliant—albeit gross—idea struck her.  She leaned over her phone, tapping the ‘answer’ button with her long tongue.

“Tiffany, are you therrre?”  Becca’s voice came through the speaker, an odd warble in her voice.

“Yeah, what’s up?”  Tiffany replied, doing her best to seem natural.

“Dorrrn’t eat too much food!  Yourrr’ll have rrrebound changes!”  Becca half-growled into the mic.

Tiffany blinked, unsure of how to respond.

A second later, Becca’s voice came through the mic.  “You’rrrre alrrrready becoming a dog, arrrren’t you?”

“Maybe.”  Tiffany sighed weakly, following it with a light bark—hopefully not too much to alert her family.  “Family doesn’t like TrrransFun, too.”  Tiffany muttered.

“Y-arf!  Yikes, that sucks.”  Becca half-yipped through the phone.

Tiffany nodded; then realized the silliness of that action.  “You’rrrre telling me.”

“Hrr, l-oorf rrn....  Arf!  Arf!”  Was the reply from the other end of the phone, and Tiffany sighed.  So much for calming herself down...

“Tiffany?”  A new voice came through the speaker, and Tiffany yipped in surprise.

“It’s Becca’s mom.  I don’t know if you can still speak, but if you can...  Maybe it’d be better to go talk to your family, let them know it’s you.  I’ll call your house in half an hour, just in case you need a place to stay.”

Tiffany felt her eyes welling up.  “Th-thanks.”  She managed, half-hiccuping with relief.  It wasn’t much of a plan, but it was at least something.

“Hey, don’t worry about it.”  Becca’s mom chuckled.  “Besides, I have a soft spot for cute dogs, anyways.”  Tiffany considered telling her she was becoming a Saint Bernard, but didn’t have the heart.  She’d win her over anyways.  No, the hell with that!  She’d win over her family!

“Bye, thanks arrrrgain.”  Tiffany half-choked out the last word, praying her vocal chords would remain human for what was coming next.  She stood up, making her way for the door.  Then her feet started to ache.

That always left her conflicted—she wasn’t sure if she liked these changes or not.  It was really cool to see her feet expanding, her bones stretching.  On the other hand, it meant that she was losing her slim cheerleader’s feet—which was in itself a mixed blessing.  She’d practiced ballet as a child, which had left her feet calloused and rough.

The soft, plump pads that were overtaking her skin were a welcome reprieve from that, even if it meant she was losing more of her humanity.  And, in truth, even if the dog she was becoming had a dumb face, it had gorgeous paws.  Tiffany shook her head, feeling her ears flop from side to side as she completed the motion.

Just like before, her big toe slid up her ankle, leaving her with a dewclaw, and—what was she doing, getting distracted by her new paws?  She had a mission to do, and she had to do it quickly.  Although...  She’d definitely find some time after this to admire her new paws.  Bot for now!

Tiffany hurriedly stumbled to the door, her claws beginning to overtake her toes, her paws making walking on two legs difficult.  She managed to twist at the lock, pulling the door open just in time for her hips to give way, sending her to all fours.

Her entire family was staring at her, and Tiffany realized just how phenomenally bad of an idea that had been.  She felt her cheeks burn even as her nose flattened out, pushing away from her face as her muzzle formed.  Her lips quirked upward in a Saint Bernard’s dopey smile, and she slurped her tongue back into her mouth, looking at her surrounding family.

Maybe she could save the explanations for later...  Tiffany did her best attempt to bark like a dog, pretending her voice had already left her.  To her delight, by the second bark her voice’s pitch was a few degrees lower, and by the third she sounded just like the dog she was becoming.

“Speak of the Devil...”  Tiffany’s father put his hands on his hips, walking over to his changing daughter, inspecting her from top to bottom.

Tiffany trembled under his gaze, mortified as her tail grew in, standing pert and at attention.

Her father nodded, having completed his sweep.  “Used to have a dog just like you.  Think I’ve still got the stuff to take care of a Saint Bernard, too.”

Tiffany whined in confusion, her ears flat against her head.  What?  She didn’t expect that...

Her father glared at her sterntly.  “Missy, you’re still in trouble for taking some of that stuff without our permission.”  Then his gaze softened, and Tiffany could have cried with how tenderly he pet her head.  “But hell, you’re my daughter.  Did you think I’d yell at you because of some kink you have?”  He chuckled, petting her head.

Then, he turned to Tiffany’s uncle, pointing at him with a stern finger.  “And Jim?  If you say one word, one word of disrespect to her...  You’re not welcome to my famous steak.”

Uncle Jim shrugged.  “Then what say we give Ol’ Tiff a piece of steak and then set off some fireworks?”

Tiffany sighed with relief.  Maybe this ‘rebound’ wouldn’t be as bad as she’d first thought.  She licked her dad’s hand, her heart racing with happiness as he laughed good-naturedly.  Yeah, things would be fine.  And from the sounds of it, Becca would be in good hands, too.

Becca yipped with amusement, watching her sister’s face push out into a squirrel’s muzzle.  She looked so cute like that!  But there was also the matter of what was coming next.  She made eye contact with Debby, and a silent understanding passed between them.

Debby shuddered as the changes squeezed her, shrinking her down from five and a half feet, to five, then to four...  Becca’s started next, and she yipped as her sides squeezed gently around her, her entire body feeling as though she was in a shrinking cage.  It didn’t hurt, but was still extremely uncomfy, her body shrinking down, down, down...

She stopped her descent at around two feet tall; then she looked to her sister to find the squirrel growing smaller still.  Even though Debby had started shrinking first, her size continued to diminish until she was just barely over half a foot tall.  She looked up at Becca, chittering as she stood on her hind legs to try and look a little larger—though she was still much shorter than her sister.

“Oh my God, you two look so cute!”  Becca’s mother gasped, and before the two girls knew it, they were scooped up by a tight embrace by the large woman.  “I can’t wait to dress you two up in all sorts of different outfits!”  The woman nuzzled each of her daughters in turn as she continued, and the two of them shared a panicked look.  Maybe this rebound wouldn’t be as great as Becca had first thought...
